Co-Founder & Lead Interventionist

Christopher Veto

Christopher Veto, NCACIP, is co-founder and lead interventionist, specializing in structured, family-centered interventions for substance use and co-occurring mental health concerns across New York. He helps families move from crisis and uncertainty into a clear plan for intervention, treatment placement and ongoing recovery support.

Christopher Veto, NCACIP-certified interventionist and co-founder of Intervention NY

Background

NCACIP (Nationally Certified Advanced Clinical Intervention Professional), a private certification issued by The Addictions Academy. New York does not license the title 'interventionist'.

As the primary intervention-facing member of the team, Christopher works directly with families before, during and after the intervention process. His approach emphasizes preparation, alignment, safety, dignity and matching each person to the appropriate level of care.

He holds the Nationally Certified Advanced Clinical Intervention Professional (NCACIP) certification individually, in his own name. Intervention NY's NAADAC organizational membership is separate and is not a substitute for it. Benjamin Zohar publishes educational articles through ISSUP.

A large share of the cases he leads involve co-occurring conditions, where the drinking or the pills are sitting on top of untreated bipolar disorder, trauma, an eating disorder or psychosis. Screening for that before a placement is chosen is the difference between a program that can treat what is actually there and an expensive month that changes nothing.

Christopher writes and reviews the substance guides and crisis resources on this site, and co-wrote the guide on what defines a professional interventionist in New York.

What Christopher does on a case

  • Takes the first call and decides, honestly, whether this is an intervention at all
  • Screens for co-occurring conditions before a program is shortlisted
  • Shortlists licensed facilities on clinical fit, with the reasoning written down
  • Runs the individual preparation calls with each family member
  • Facilitates the conversation in the room
  • Leads the twelve months of family coaching that follows

What Christopher is not qualified to do

  • I am not a physician, psychiatrist, psychologist or licensed clinical therapist. I do not diagnose, and I do not prescribe.
  • I do not provide treatment. Clinical care is delivered by the licensed program, and my involvement with your relative largely ends at the point of admission.
  • I do not give legal advice, and I will not take part in moving an adult who has not consented to go.
  • I will not quote you a success rate as though it were audited data, and I will not tell you an intervention is the right step when I do not think it is.

Intervention NY is not a treatment facility, detox or medical provider. In an emergency call 911; for free 24/7 support call or text 988.
